The American String Teachers Association named Melrose Public Schools Orchestra Director Luke Miller the 2018 ASTA Orchestra Director of the Year.
Mr. Miller directs the High School Orchestra, Middle School Orchestra, and serves as one of the Elementary School string specialists in the Melrose Public School System. Mr. Miller has been involved with the Massachusetts Music Educators Association Northeastern District since 2010. He served as Orchestra Manager for the Junior District, Senior District, and Massachusetts All State Festival Orchestras, and serves as a member of the Northeastern District executive board. Mr. Miller regularly participates as a guest conductor at the annual March String Fest in Billerica each spring.
As a violinist, Mr. Miller performs with the Melrose Symphony Orchestra, occasionally with other community orchestras in the area, and teaches private string lessons. During the summer, he spends his time working as a faculty member at a variety of music camps, including the University of New Hampshire’s Summer Youth Music School (SYMS), the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Days in the Arts (DARTS), and the String Music Festival at Endicott College. He also serves as a staff member of the New England Ambassadors of Music program, which performs all around Europe every other summer.
In 2019, The NAMM Foundation named Melrose one of the best communities for music education.
